The event, which was scheduled to take place between May 19-21, has been postponed in July due to the demise of the President of the UAE, Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Due to the demise of the President of the UAE, Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) has decided to postpone the 2022 IIFA Weekend and Awards from May to mid-July.
This news comes after the UAE declared 40-days mourning period in the country. The event, which was supposed to take place between May 19-21, will now held between July 14-16.
IIFA, in its official statement, said, "In solidarity with the people and Government of the UAE and with the national mourning being observed, the 22nd edition of the IIFA Weekend & Awards to be held on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi from the 19th to 21st of May 2022 has been postponed."
The Indian film industry also expressed its condolences. "The IIFA and the Indian film industry expresses its deepest condolences to the people of the UAE and the world on the passing of the President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan," said the official statement.
Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, 73, was ailing for a long time. He died on Friday.
